Tyne
O'Connell, author of That Girl-Boy Thing and numerous other titles talks
about her writing.
What
inspires you to write?
My inability to do anything else - that and the cold hard fact that a
girl needs to turn a dime...or is that diamond?
How
long does it take you to write a novel?
Roughly 6 months.
Do
you have a writing routine? If so, what is it?
Wherever I am in the world I wake up, get dressed run down to my local
Starbucks for my four shots of espresso and then I glue myself to my laptop
for 4 to 6 hours straight. I try to avoid doing anything else during the
day including eating, that way I can party at night with a clear conscience.
Has
your life changed since you became a novelist?
I am more focused.
How
do you cure writer's block?
I stick to my routine of four shots of espresso and glue myself to my
laptop - sometimes what I write might be crap but eventually ideas and
inspiration start to flow. The main thing is live hard and write even
harder.
Who
is your favourite author?
Nancy Mitford
What
are you reading at the moment?
My overdraft statement and Dating without Novocain by Lisa Cach.
What's
the biggest myth about being a writer?
You get to afford more shoes.
What
advice would you give budding authors?
Live a lot, live it large then buy a laptop, take it everywhere and write
everyday.
What
can readers expect from you in the future?
A sitcom.
